Need new leadership!!!

Ok gang, Carol and I are ready to give the reigns over to someone else who wants to run the Sketch in group. Let me know if there are any takers by June 1st or the group will be disbanded. :) I am revamping my life and Carol has a bunch of other commitments, so we need someone else to take charge. :) Who is up for the challenge???

Special Sketch In-April 17th

We have a special Sketch In planned for April 17th at The Beaded Frog on Main Street of Greenville, SC.  I know there are a lot of people that would like to drag out their sketch books and put some type of drawing in it....but feel like their drawing skills aren't so good. Well, I talked to Heidi Woody, owner of the Beaded Frog, and she mentioned she took a workshop the newest rave, Zentangles.  

"The Zentangle method is a way of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is fun and relaxing. Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. The Zentangle method is enjoyed all over this world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages.

We believe that life is an art form and that our Zentangle method is an elegant metaphor for deliberate artistry in life."

I have been fascinated in these doodle design drawing and thought it would be a fun way to spend an hour or so. Heidi has the "tiles" you draw on for sale or you can use your sketch book. 

-All you need is a Pigma felt pin, a few different widths for line variation, pencil, sketch book and color pencils if you want to add color.

Cup of Coffee? March 19th

Since Carol is taking a group to Landrum on March 16th for a sketching encounter, I will be grabbing a cup of coffee at Coffee to a Tea on the 19th at 11am to do a little sketching. So, if you want to meet up with me there and maybe we can do some sketching around that area. Coffee to a Tea is located on Main Street Greenville, SC in the same building as Smoke on the Water and Mellow Mushroom. ;)

March Sketch In

Everyone seems to be very busy this month and we can't focus ourselves enough to decide about a "regular" Sketch In.
A couple of my Urban Sketcher buddies and I are going to the "Architectural Warehouse" in Landrum, SC this Friday (3/16) around 10:30 to sketch.
Anyone is free to join us if you'd like to!
It looks like a great place to sketch with tons of different shapes and things to look at.

February Sketch In Update

The Sketch In is this coming Monday Feb.20 at the North Main Street Fire Dept.
I don't have the physical address but it is beside the Michael McDunn Studio/Gallery (which is located at 741 Rutherford Rd).
We will be meeting at the Fire Dept at 10:00 am.
Of course, we will have to vacate (and do so quickly) is they were to get a call.

Do bring your red paint...

February Sketch In

Hi - Carol Sloan here.


February's Sketch In will be on Feb. 20 at 10:00 at the North Main St Fire Dept (in Greenville SC). 
It is located where North Main St ends at Rutherford Road. 
(I'll publish the exact address when I find it!)


Sarah says you can't miss it! 


We told them that if they get a call, we would get out of the way quickly (might want to wear your running shoes!).

There are places to park there and across the street at a vacant building. 


There's a nearby place to have lunch, on N. Pleasantburg, Brioso Fresh Pasta (http://www.briosopasta.com/) that Sarah says is quite good. 
They open at 11.


I hope that we have lots of sketchers there!

Remember that this is for anyone that wants to do some urban sketching.

We are all interested in drawing what we see.

It's not about how great our sketches are (but they will improve with practice!) but about how great our interest is in our world.

So pass the word along about our urban sketching group - everyone is invited.

We always have so much fun. I love to see all the sketches when we get back together.

Some of us will stay on for lunch together but it's certainly not necessary if you have to run on.

Carol Sloan and I (susan sorrell) thought it was time to showcase the talents of our Sketch In group and are planning a show for August 2013. The show will consist of sketchbooks and finished pieces of art that were inspired by the sketches. This will be a curated show and it will be held at the Metropolitan Arts Council's gallery. Stay tuned for the details to come as the show comes closer. (We wanted to give you a heads up so you could start on your entries.) So get to work and join us for our upcoming sketch ins.
